The Grande Dame 2012 is the hidden treasure of the Veuve Clicquot Champagne House. This prestigious champagne is a perfect expression of Madame Clicquot’s love of Pinot Noir. ” The 2012 Grande Dame is a wine that is both precise and delicate. It is mischievous, full of life and disconcerting. This new cuvée offers a powerful minerality from the Pinot Noir balanced by the freshness of the blend. Its aging potential is immense. I was thrilled to taste it. ” Didier Mariotti, Cellar Master at Veuve Clicquot.

La Grande Dame is the perfect illustration of the excellence of the Veuve Clicquot Champagne House. It expresses wonderfully the love of the latter for the Pinot Noir which, since the 2008 vintage, represents more than 90% of the blend. It is the responsibility of the Cellar Master to glorify this grape and to find the right balance allowing it to express its refined, elegant, light, delicate, yet powerful character, with great firmness, incredible subtlety and a certain reserve. It is a tribute to Madame Clicquot and to the creative and elegant souls who have followed in her footsteps. A wine that reflects the very image of La Grande Dame. It was with determination, intuition and vision that Madame Clicquot selected and acquired exceptional plots of land in the villages of Bouzy, Verzenay and Verzy, which would later obtain the prestigious Grand Cru appellation.
Two fascinating women, two parallel destinies: This is not the first meeting between the two women: in 2006, on the occasion of an auction in Tokyo, Yayoi Kusama had already given a new life to the portrait of Madame Clicquot by playing with her famous peas. Today, the dialogue between the artist and the Champagne House continues and takes a new step through this creative collaboration.
Although more than 150 years separate them, Madame Clicquot and Yayoi Kusama share many similarities that unite their remarkable destinies. From the work of Yayoi Kusama to the development of the Champagne House by Madame Clicquot, these two female figures demonstrate a strong and unfailing commitment. Today, their destinies come together through an unprecedented collaboration.
    To the eye

An exaltation of the senses! The robe is brilliant, with golden reflections. The bubble is shimmering and very fine.

    On the nose

On the nose, initial notes of white flowers such as jasmine, honeysuckle and vine flowers are felt before opening up to more fruity nuances of apple, pear and peach. Some notes of fresh almond and frangipani complete the bouquet.

    In the mouth

On the palate, the wine reveals more complex aromas of dry apricot, hazelnut, honey and candy sugar. The silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance and character. The maturation allowed the wine to acquire depth and power.

    Food & champagne pairings

The Grande Dame 2012 is ideal as an aperitif, with smoked cured meats, shellfish, appetizers, fish, entrees. It is sublime with a celery purée with lemon and Granny Smith apple, almond milk emulsion.

    Ideal operating temperature

To be consumed between 10 and 12 °C.

    Potential of keeping

Like all wines, champagne can be kept for varying lengths of time, depending on the type. Under optimal storage conditions, champagne can be kept for 1 to 2 years for Brut cuvées, and up to 4/5 years or even longer for vintage and prestige champagnes. Whatever happens, rest assured that you'll never be able to open your champagne too early, as the Champagne Houses only release their cuvées when they have reached perfect ripeness and are ready for immediate consumption.

    Assembly :
The blend of La Grande Dame 2012 is composed mainly of grapes from the historic Grands Crus vineyards, among the most prestigious in Champagne. The Pinot Noir predominates at 90% in the assembly magnified by 10% of Chardonnay, with grapes coming from Aÿ, Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay, Bouzy. The 10% Chardonnay comes from the Grands Crus vineyards of Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger.
