Steeped in the world of champagne for as long as they can remember, and in love with their region, its culture, its specialties and its biodiversity, Marsault founders Marie and Marceau Bardout came up with the idea of recovering used or unused champagne bottles destined for the scrap heap, and upcycling them to make eco-responsible candles.
Building on the success of the candles, the collection was extended to other products, again using Champagne bottles.
The bottles are mainly collected from Champagne houses or tasting cellars located in Champagne-Ardenne, then cleaned, cut, sanded and even melted down before being re-used.
Wax:
The candles are made from two main types of wax:
– Soy wax: sourced from a French supplier and produced in England.
– Coconut oil: sourced from a French supplier and produced in Tahiti.
Wicks:
Two types of wick are used:
– Wooden wicks: Produced from untreated French beechwood, they promote fragrance diffusion.
– Cotton wicks: Pre-waxed with vegetable wax, they offer a fine, elegant flame.
Fragrances :
The fragrances meet all the safety standards imposed in France. They are also classified as CMR-free. This means they do not release any carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic substances during combustion.
For fragrance development, Marsault works with an English company based in France. With the support of their perfumer from Grasse, Marsault’s distinctive sensory identity was created.

The cardboard boxes are designed by “Le Sanglier” printing works based in the Ardennes.

The designs were imagined and created by Rémoise graphic artist Albane Lussat.
