Like all wines, champagne can be kept for varying lengths of time, depending on the type. Under optimal storage conditions, champagne can be kept for 1 to 2 years for Brut cuvées, and up to 4/5 years or even longer for vintage and prestige champagnes. Whatever happens, rest assured that you'll never be able to open your champagne too early, as the Champagne Houses only release their cuvées when they have reached perfect ripeness and are ready for immediate consumption.
Krug Rosé is a blend of 3 grape varieties and 10 to 15 different crus. A rigorous selection is made when choosing the three grape varieties that will be used in the complex blends elaborated by Krug: Pinot Noir, deep, intense and giving the wine an exceptional longevity. The Meunier, with very fruity notes. Chardonnay, fine and elegant.
2008: After a mild winter, a cloudy spring and cool summer raised concerns about grape ripening, which were rekindled when a severe hailstorm hit the village of Sainte-Gemme, renowned for its plots of Meunier. However, in mid-September, the clouds miraculously dissipated, giving way to favorable conditions that continued throughout the harvest, ensuring excellent health and ripeness of the fruit.
That year’s Chardonnays revealed an unusual fruity expressiveness and suppleness, while the Pinot Noirs displayed character and boldness, with a lively finish. As for the Millers, they had been affected, as we feared, by the hail. Fortunately, the House’s vast reserve library contained several vintages that brought their energy and bright fruit notes to the blend.
Pinot Noirs from Ambonnay, Mareuil-sur-Ay and d’Ay, selected for their intensely fruity character, have given the wine greater body and expressiveness. Finally, a red wine from an Ay parcel gave this champagne its bewitching color, length and spicy taste. Such a union promised to unfold the verve and elegance so characteristic of each edition of Krug Rosé.
