Each Krug Vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. A Krug Vintage brings together the most expressive wines of a single year, enhanced by more than ten years of cellar ageing. Each Krug Vintage is different: it is the “music” of the year, transposed into the Krug universe. At Krug, 2008 gave birth to an elegant and timeless champagne, perfectly balanced between freshness, structure and aromatic richness. After 12 years in the cellars of the House, Krug Vintage 2008 has gained in expression and presents a remarkable, precise and harmonious aromatic profile. Like all Krug Champagnes, the 2008 Vintage will continue to mature over time. Find the full story of each Edition online through its Krug iD, the six numbers on the back label.
    To the eye

At first glance, Krug 2008 reveals a luminous and intense golden colour.

    On the nose

The nose is expressive, rich and generous, with weathered aromas of honey, liquorice, menthol, orange peel and grapefruit.

    In the mouth

Lively, intense and harmonious, with good tension on the palate, notes of quince, candied fruit and citrus, yellow kiwi, starfruit, honey, apple pie, petit beurre, orange peel, peony and fennel, and floral and mentholated touches stand out on the palate. Finally, the 2008 Krug offers length on the palate, while being precise and remarkably structured.

    Food & champagne pairings

Krug 2008 goes wonderfully well with oysters in tartar with a lobster emulsion, parmesan shortbread, Chaource puff pastry with pistachio, rabbit terrine with sorrel, tagliatelle with mussels and basil, dishes prepared with aromatic herbs, such as oregano and thyme, white fish in a pepper and lemon sauce, and with desserts combining liveliness and roundness, such as passion fruit and lemon meringue.

    Ideal operating temperature

    Serve between 9 et 12 °C.

    Potential of keeping

The House of Krug creates only Prestige cuvées, which gives its champagnes the art of going through the years with richness and elegance.

    Assembly :
For the blend, the wines chosen are those that best highlight the exceptional character of 2008. The Pinot Noirs, which make up more than half of the blend (53%), come mainly from the famous parcels on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, particularly those of Aÿ, Mareuil, Bouzy and Ambonnay. The Meuniers (25%), with their tension, bring citrus notes, while the richly flavoured wines from the Chardonnay parcels (22%) give a fruity note to the overall blend.
    Vinification :
After 12 years in the cellars, Krug Vintage 2008 has gained in expression and presents a remarkable, precise and harmonious profile. The year 2008: 2008 was one of the coolest years in the last 14 years, but also one of the least sunny in Champagne for almost half a century. Rainfall was not excessive during the growth of the vines, while the summer was dry. This was followed by ideal weather conditions during the harvest. The absence of strong heat during the summer of 2008 allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and progressively. At Krug, 2008 gave birth to a timeless Champagne, perfectly balanced between freshness, structure and aromatic richness. The unexpected diversity of grape varieties translates into great complexity, and we observed a very broad spectrum of flavours and aromas during the harvest. For the final blend, the Cellar Master selected wines that reflected the complexity of 2008 in a beautifully structured composition marked by the elegance of that year.
