In 1842, Moët & Chandon created one of the first Champagne vintages for the pleasure of British and American connoisseurs who appreciated more mature wines. A singular expression of a particular year, each new vintage contributes to the House’s fabulous heritage: the Grand Vintage collection.

Vintage 2016 expresses the very essence of the Champagne terroir. A climate of contrasts whose mission seems to be to put vineyards and people to the test over the seasons. The 2016 vintage reflects a harvest of black grapes of exceptional quality: the meunier reveals an interesting palette of fruit and tension, the pinot noir presents generous fruit and exotic notes, and the chardonnay is fresh, evoking various expressions of citrus.
    To the eye

Brilliant color. The color is yellow, slightly golden, with bright green highlights.

    On the nose

A dazzling bouquet. The first, most volatile aromas are brown and dry: toast, toasted cereals, roasted hazelnut. On breathing, the aromas soften: gingerbread, marzipan, barley sugar. Finally, the most persistent base notes are fruity and floral: plum, mirabelle plum, quince, orange blossom and aniseed.

    In the mouth

A frank, enveloping palate. On the palate, sensations follow one another seamlessly, like a fading sequence shot. The round, supple attack gives way seamlessly to structure, a sensation of core, and then a finish with the sweet, tangy freshness of a clementine or pomelo.

    Food & champagne pairings

Champagne should not be rushed with overpowering flavors, but rather its delicacy. Grand Vintage goes wonderfully well with melting meats and fish, delicate white and exotic fruits, small green vegetables (broad beans, peas, etc.), light herbal juices and a hint of herbs (watercress, parsley, tarragon, artichoke hearts).

    Ideal operating temperature

    10 to 12 °C.

    Potential of keeping

Like all wines, champagne can be kept for varying lengths of time, depending on the type. Under optimal storage conditions, champagne can be kept for 1 to 2 years for Brut cuvées, and up to 4/5 years or even longer for vintage and prestige champagnes. Whatever happens, rest assured that you'll never be able to open your champagne too early, as the Champagne Houses only release their cuvées when they have reached perfect ripeness and are ready for immediate consumption.
