Perennial and constant, Krug Grande Cuvée is the heart of the Krug identity. Krug Grande Cuvée owes its personality, like all other Krugs, to its birth by first fermentation in small oak barrels: this dimension which marks the Krug style. The Krug exception, a unique champagne. Its methods guaranteeing the highest quality, its 19-hectare vineyard, the strictness of its supplies on 56 hectares and its three million bottles that have been waiting for many years in its cellars make Krug the reference for Prestige Champagne.
The tasting reveals round, pastry notes, underlined by an intense golden color and fine bubbles full of vivacity, predicting fullness and elegance.
On the nose
In the mouth
Krug Grande Cuvée lends itself to many culinary combinations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, pairing with an old parmesan cheese or with a turbot with truffles. This champagne can be served as an aperitif with Jabugo ham and an old Comté cheese, a plate of oysters, grilled shrimps, Indian or Moroccan dishes, and also to accompany desserts such as tarte Tatin or cheesecake.
To appreciate all its finesse and aromas, champagne should be enjoyed chilled (but not iced). Depending on the cuvée, the ideal serving temperature is between 8 and 12°C.
Like all wines, champagne can be kept for varying lengths of time, depending on the type. Under optimal storage conditions, champagne can be kept for 1 to 2 years for Brut cuvées, and up to 4/5 years or even longer for vintage and prestige champagnes. Whatever happens, rest assured that you'll never be able to open your champagne too early, as the Champagne Houses only release their cuvées when they have reached perfect ripeness and are ready for immediate consumption.
168th edition: Krug Grande Cuvée 168th edition is structured around the 2012 harvest, a beautiful year with a low yield due to a succession of weather events. Frost, rain, storms and hail hit the vineyards of Champagne in winter and spring 2012. The end of the year was the driest since 1974, resulting in a smaller crop than in previous years.
In addition to the wines of the year, the Champagne House drew from its impressive library of reserve wines, a carefully selected selection of which provided 42% of the final blend. Several Meuniers from different years gave it freshness, while Chardonnays and wines from parcels in the Montagne de Reims, harvested in the 1990s, gave it the fullness and roundness essential to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
