Vintage 2020, an exceptional year: Remarkable in many respects, the year 2020 will remain in our memories; from a cultural point of view, it was also remembered for its extraordinary, dry and scorching summer.
It was a hot year in which the Pinots de la Montagne particularly shone, as did the Meuniers.
As for the Chardonnay, whose proportion was accentuated, it revealed itself in full freshness, the pillar of the blend.
However, despite the impression of constant sunshine and hot spells, the year showed normal annual averages; a continental vintage, therefore, which enabled the production of ripe, well-balanced wines.
This 245th Louis Roederer blend builds on the strengths of the dry, continental, perfectly ripe 2020 harvest, which produced juicy, structured and aromatic grapes, resulting in dense, fleshy wines with an optimal balance between substance and freshness.
    To the eye

The color is a beautiful golden yellow, very Champagne!
The effervescence is extremely fine and regular.

    On the nose

A generous, full and deep bouquet of yellow fruits such as nectarine, ripe citrus fruits such as lemon, and almonds.
From mature fruit notes, it then evolves towards pure, intense aromatic notes, subtly nuanced by smoky accents.

    In the mouth

On the palate, it delivers an impressive density of fruit, releasing complex flavors of citrus and yellow fruit; pure, intense notes nuanced by a lightly smoky touch.

    Potential of keeping

This epicurean champagne is a faithful companion to gastronomy, with a long ageing potential. It can be enjoyed now or after several years, revealing a new facet of its identity as one of the House's great Vintage wines.

    Assembly :
2020 vintage (55%); Réserve Perpétuelle (created in 2012, 35%); other reserve wines aged in oak (10%).
    Vinification :
Collection is based on a selection of plots chosen in the heart of the Champagne region, adapted to its identity, with a priority given to sustainable viticultural practices. Cuvée Collection is made from 1/3 of the “La Rivière” vineyard, 1/3 of the “La Montagne” vineyard, 1/3 of the “La Côte” vineyard.
Grapes from the Louis Roederer estates are complemented by grapes from selected plots from partner winegrowers, identified as being best suited to its identity, rooted in the heart of the Champagne terroir.
To take freshness even further, and balance the fine ripeness of the harvests, Louis Roederer Collection includes a “Réserve Perpétuelle” that brings new sensations, both tactile and gustatory: the wine finds greater breadth, depth, substance and relief; its more enveloping, fleshier texture enhances its complexity.
Collection is also composed of a large proportion of reserve wines vinified in wood, which judiciously balance the freshness of the Réserve Perpétuelle and add intensity to the blend. Collection thus gains in modernity and complexity, adorning itself with all the virtues of a great champagne.
This new opus is a remarkable expression of Louis Roederer’s determination, clearly stated over ten years ago, to use the climate change affecting Champagne as an opportunity to go even further in the quest for excellence in its blends, and to explore new territories in terms of typicity and sensations.
Aged for almost four years in the cellars of Louis Roederer, Collection 245 plays the complex part of a wine of rare intensity, generous and full of flavor, a new tailor-made composition of an approach that places blending – of terroirs, origins and wines – at its heart.
