Vignes Veuve Clicquot - Champmarket

THE ORIGINS OF RUINART

  • 1772: Creation of the Maison Veuve Clicquot.
  • 1798: The anchor. A symbol of Christian origin and hope, the anchor was chosen in 1798 by Philippe Clicquot as the cork mark, the only distinctive sign before the appearance of labels. Kept throughout the centuries, it shows Veuve Clicquot’s attachment to its origins.
  • 1805: Madame Clicquot takes over the reins of the company.
  • 1810: The first known Vintage in Champagne.
  • 1816: Invention of the riddling table to clarify wine.
  • 1818: Creation of the first “Rosé d’assemblage”: Breaking with the tradition of adding an elderberry-based preparation to obtain rosé champagne, Madame Clicquot created the very first “rosé d’assemblage” by blending a little of her Bouzy red wine with her champagne.
  • 1877: Application for the first yellow label, the House emblem.
  • 1972: Creation of La Grande Dame and the Prix de la Femme d’Affaires. Awarded annually, this prize celebrates businesswomen capable of rising to any challenge, with an entrepreneurial spirit, boldness, creativity and talent, worthy heirs to “La Grande Dame de Champagne”.
  • 2004: Launch of Veuve Clicquot Rosé. Bold, romantic and contemporary, Veuve Clicquot Rosé is a champagne for every occasion… A fresh, structured, gourmet champagne to share with friends. The perfect example of Veuve Clicquot’s winemaking expertise.

LA GRANDE DAME, THE GLORY OF PINOT NOIR

200 years ago, Madame Clicquot said, “Our black grapes make the finest white wines”, a statement that still holds true today. Appreciated for its versatility, Pinot Noir expresses itself differently depending on growing conditions and the year of harvest.

A blend of great finesse from Veuve Clicquot’s historic Grands Crus, La Grande Dame embodies the House’s oenological prowess, with immense ageing potential.

THE GRANDE DAME OF CHAMPAGNE

Barbe Nicole Clicquot, née Ponsardin, was an extraordinary businesswoman and the first woman to run a Champagne House.

Born in 1777 in Reims, daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin, she grew up in an affluent social environment, where she received a serious education in the moral and traditional values of her time.

In 1798, she married François Clicquot, son of the founder of the eponymous House. He passed on to her his passion and knowledge of champagne production and trade. Thanks to the time she spent with her husband, Madame Clicquot acquired the maturity she needed to decide to take over the reins of the family business in 1805, when François died prematurely.

At a time when women had no place in the business world, she dared to run the champagne house she now heads with determination.

BOLDNESS AND INTELLIGENCE

Seizing every opportunity with speed, while measuring the risks, she rapidly expanded her shipments to the four corners of the globe. Uncompromising about the quality of her wines, Madame Clicquot perfected winemaking techniques by inventing the riddling table, and innovated by creating the first blended rosé champagne. In just a few years, she made her name a brand of excellence celebrated the world over. Her peers dubbed her “the grande dame of Champagne”.

RAW YELLOW CARD, THE SIGNATURE

Produced each year from a priceless collection of reserve wines, the signature Champagne Brut Carte Jaune is an expression of the style and quality of the Maison Veuve Clicquot. The yellow label that distinguishes it from other cuvées reflects its luminous personality and the excellence of the House’s winemakers.

COLLECTION ICONS VEUVE CLICQUOT

Veuve Clicquot’s ICONS collection illustrates the House’s astonishing ability to continually reinvent itself, particularly on the occasion of its 250th anniversary. It reflects the character of the range as well as the House’s creativity, confirming its unchanging passion for unique and innovative objects.

In 1805, Madame Barbe-Nicole Clicquot became head of the family Champagne House following the untimely death of her husband Philippe Clicquot. Now a widow, this strong-willed businesswoman transcended the codes of her time to become one of the greatest figures in the history of champagne. The Champagne House was later renamed Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.

In 1772, Philippe Clicquot founded a Champagne wine merchant with the ambition of taking his wines beyond France’s borders. Over the decades, Maison Clicquot has established itself as the epitome of French refinement and art de vivre. Its long tradition of expertise and excellence makes it a key reference in the world of champagne.

To make a lasting impression without offering a prestige cuvée, the Carte Jaune, Rosé or Vintage cuvées will delight your guests. If the occasion is exceptional, La cuvée la Grande Dame, a prestgie wine paying tribute to Madame Clicquot and pinot noir, is sure to leave a lasting impression on your guests.

A bottle of champagne usually serves 6 or 7 glasses, but does not allow guests to refill their glasses. For a reception for 12 people, we recommend 3 bottles of Veuve Clicquot Brut Carte Jaune or Rosé, for example. If the reception is a Champagne dinner, you’ll need to plan for about one bottle per person, so that you can serve glasses from the aperitif through to dessert.

The ideal temperature for tasting Veuve Clicquot Champagne is between 8 and 10 degrees. A temperature that allows the champagne to express all its aromatic nuances, subtly fruity and floral.

The Veuve Clicquot vineyard gives pride of place to the Pinot Noir grape variety, which is present in the majority of our cuvées. The predominance of Pinot Noir gives the wines the emblematic structure of Veuve Clicquot champagnes, while Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse of a perfectly balanced wine.

The primary difference between Champagne Veuve Clicquot Brut and Rosé lies in the Champagne’s color: the former reveals a golden yellow hue, while the latter offers a sumptuous coppery-orange hue. In terms of taste and aroma, the Brut carte jaune is a great Champagne wine, powerful and structured, ideal for the aperitif, while the Rosé is a fresh, structured, gourmet Champagne that goes perfectly with fish.
