Piper-HeidsieckSpecial Edition 1971 Bottle (0.75L) | Wooden Case
Piper-Heidsieck Sepcial Edition 1971 Bottle with Wooden Box is a treasure of the Champagne region, produced in only 2021 bottles. Piper-Heidsieck’s SPECIAL EDITION collection of champagnes gives free rein to the creativity of the Cellar Master, Émilien Boutillat. To initiate this new collection, he reinterprets a 50-year-old champagne.
The genesis: SPECIAL EDITION 1971, conception began in February 2020 with the tasting of the vintage. Émilien Boutillat and the oenological committee were struck by the wine’s aromatic qualities and its spectacular vivacity. As the youngest cellar master of a great Champagne house and well anchored in his time, he felt it was obvious to reveal this historic vintage by a recent disgorgement. So he added his personal touch. HORS-SÉRIE 1971, with his sensitivity, his audacity and his inventiveness. Although made from the same blend, each bottle has its own personality. During aging, the wine has evolved differently in each bottle. This particularity guarantees a unique tasting experience and justifies the numbering of the bottles.
The discreet effervescence comes from a golden-bronze robe.
On the nose
SPECIAL EDITION 1971 is an outstanding vintage. It impresses by the complementarity of the sensations on the nose and the palate. It reveals a continuum of aromas and flavors that reflects the passage of time: a long road that we take and go up with delight. The nose reveals a powerful aromatic palette with spicy notes.
In the mouth
SPECIAL EDITION 1971 presents a spectacular freshness for a fifty year old champagne. Its length coats the palate with a velvety touch, combining vinosity and unctuousness. The finish is very lively, with citrus accents. SPECIAL EDITION 1971 envelops the palate with sparkling and original sensations. Just let yourself be transported to the decade of all possibilities, and discover what a 50 year old wine says today.
To appreciate all its finesse and aromas, champagne should be enjoyed chilled (but not iced). Depending on the cuvée, the ideal serving temperature is between 8 and 12°C.
Like all wines, champagne can be kept for varying lengths of time, depending on the type. Under optimal storage conditions, champagne can be kept for 1 to 2 years for Brut cuvées, and up to 4/5 years or even longer for vintage and prestige champagnes. Whatever happens, rest assured that you'll never be able to open your champagne too early, as the Champagne Houses only release their cuvées when they have reached perfect ripeness and are ready for immediate consumption.
Émilien Boutillat wanted 2021 to enhance the know-how of 50 years ago by developing a very special dosage. For him, the disgorging liquor is like the spice that enhances a dish. The SPECIAL EDITION 1971, dosed at 10 grams, was elaborated with a 2019 Chardonnay, without malolactic fermentation, as it was the practice in 1971. Upon disgorgement in February 2021, the liqueur and vintage were perfectly matched. With this determined and precise twist, Émilien Boutillat magnifies the vintage, exalts its balance and unexpected personality, releases its dynamism, and allows it to blossom in the glass, after half a century of rest. SPECIAL EDITION 1971 is now experiencing a bold new youth, perpetuating the signature of Piper-Heidsieck vintages.
